Beautiful Women
by Sabrina Jung

The work „Beautiful Women“ visualizes the gap between female role ideals staged at photo studios and social beauty ideals suggested by advertisings. The portrait photos of women photographed in the 1920s to 1950s are covered by perfectly made up model faces found in contemporary fashion magazines. Although the materials date of origin differs, there arises a kind of symbiotic connection between it. In the first moment it satisfys the everlasting desire for perfect beauty and the attributes which are connected. At the second look the pretended ideal mutates to an uncanny mask. Media and model are both trying to inscribe a desire into an image.
